Man Accused Of Having Sex With Horse Gets Jail
ST. JOHNS (WWJ/AP) - A mid-Michigan man accused of having sex with a horse has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and five years of probation.
John Mester, a 62-year-old Riley Township resident, told a Clinton County judge Monday that he has some psychological issues and his actions were inexcusable. In September, he pleaded guilty to attempted sodomy.
The Lansing State Journal says Mester has been ordered to pay more than $4,000 in restitution to his neighbor, Cindy Heistand, who boards horses. The incident occurred on Heistand's property and was caught on a surveillance camera.
According to the Journal, a surveillance video in June captured Mester, who is married, walking around Heistand's horse pasture, overturning a bucket behind a thoroughbred mare, standing on the bucket and apparently engaging in a sexual act with the horse.
Heistand said she lost business after a horse owner saw Mester roaming the pasture.
Mester was involved in a similar case in 2001 and pleaded no contest to attempted animal torture. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail in that occurence.
