Major Road Construction Projects Starting
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - The start of the new work week brings several road construction projects.
WWJ's John Bailey reports that the month of March is the traditional start of road construction season, and crews are wasting no time jumping into gear, doing so a day early.
Long-term work is scheduled to get underway on I-696 in Warren and I-94 in Port Huron, although for both projects, crews plan to limit the freeway lane restrictions to the off-peak hours. That I-696 bridge work is likely to cause periodic stop-and-go topside also, as lane closures are planned both ways on Van Dyke on the east- and westbound service drives.
A short-term project also is scheduled to get underway this week and is likely to slow the trip on Telegraph Road in Pontiac and in Waterford.
Meanwhile, work on the Southfield Freeway is scheduled to get underway on Friday, March 4th. Road crews are expected to close the expressway entirely between M-10 in Southfield and I-96 in Detroit. The project involves road reconstruction and bridge replacement. Utilities located under the freeway also will be replaced.
During the closure, detour signs will direct motorists to Telegraph Road.
