Maibach, Former Barton Malow Exec, Dies At 91
FARMINGTON HILLS (AP) - Ben Maibach Jr., who helped lead the expansion of construction services business Barton Malow Co., has died. He was 91.
The Southfield-based company said Maibach died Saturday in Farmington Hills of cancer and natural causes.
Under his guidance, the company developed specialties in healthcare, education and industrial facilities. He also served for 50 years as a minister at Apostolic Christian Church in Livonia, and helped set up churches and schools worldwide.
Maibach's was born in 1920 in Bay City. He started at 1938 Barton Malow when it was a small Detroit-based general contractor. In 1953, he became executive vice president, rising to president in 1960, chairman in 1976, and chairman emeritus in 2002.
Maibach served on its board until 2006. Funeral details are on the company's website.
