By Edward Cardenas
SHELBY TOWNSHIP (CBS Detroit) - Macomb County is home to diverse and growing number of businesses, and Tuesday, government and business leaders come together best and brightest companies at the third annual Macomb County Business Awards.
The awards will recognize businesses in six categories for their efforts to start a new business or build a strong workforce, diversify into new industries, create greater efficiency, celebrate diversity or give back to the communities where they do business.
"Strong businesses are essential to the quality of life we enjoy here in Macomb County," said Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel, said in a release. "Their efforts to gain a competitive advantage through the execution of strategic planning makes them good neighbors and job providers for us all."
Hackel will be joined by speakers at the event including Maj. Gen. Gwen Bingham, commanding general for U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command; Steve Arwood, new president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Fifth Third CEO and President David Girodat.
A limited number of tickets are still available for the event at the Cherry Creek Golf Club and Banquet Center in Shelby Township .
Stephen N. Cassin, executive director of the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development, said in three short years the event has grown in stature and number nominees for each category.
While the event has grown in stature, it has also allowed business leaders to network with each other and gives Macomb County a chance to showcase their services to companies.
"It is inspiring to see how hard our companies are working to make their businesses successful," said Cassin.
