Macomb Man Dies After Fight, Striking Head On Car Bumper
MOUNT CLEMENS (CBS Detroit) Macomb County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an alleged homicide that happened when three men got into a fight Saturday and one fell, cracked his head on a nearby car bumper and died three days later.
The victim was Michael W. Martin, 39, of Mount Clemens.
Sean David Lawrence Bozich, 17, of Mount Clemens, was charged with manslaughter, a 15-year felony, in the incident. He was arraigned Friday in 41-B District Court in Clinton Township and ordered held on a house arrest tether with a 10 percent/$15,000 bond.
Possibly tied to the case is a car arson that happened Monday, April 16, 2012, in the area of the fight, near Hubbard and Grove Park in Mount Clemens, deputies said.
"It is a possibility that the car arson may have been retaliation from the assault," the sheriff's department said in a press release. The car belonged to Bozich's grandmother.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the fight happened just before midnight Saturday with three men, including Martin and Bozich, getting into a verbal altercation that turned physical. Martin was hit several times in the head, deputies said.
"One of the blows resulted in Mr. Martin falling backwards, causing him to strike his head on the bumper of a vehicle," Wickersham said in a press release.
The fight broke up, but at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, emergency personnel responded to a 911 call at Martin's residence about a man who wasn't breathing. He died that night at the hospital. An autopsy Wednesday by Dr. Daniel Spitz determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
