Macomb Cty. Executive Takes Stand On Water Debate
Lansing (WWJ) - It appears Macomb County's new executive is taking a stand on the controversy surrounding control of the Detroit Water system.
WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports that newly-installed Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel is breaking with his friend, L. Brooks Patterson of Oakland County, by supporting the city of Detroit in its efforts to block suburban efforts to take over the Water Board.
State Senator Bert Johnson made the announcement that Mark Hackel is siding with Detroiters.
"We will have Mark Hackel. We absolutely will ... he's on board and we will have Robert Ficano and, no, we won't get Oakland County's executive ... but it is in his best interest as well to preserve the integrity of the regional discussion," Johnson told Tim, adding that landing Mark Hackel on board is "huge."
