Macomb County's Mark Hackel To Deliver State Of The County Address
CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel is laying out his plans for the year ahead during his State of the Country address Wednesday night.
Hackel will deliver the presentation at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts in Clinton Township at 6 p.m. on Dec. 5.
Topics will include the latest economic development news from the automotive and defense industries, major consolidations and Blue Economy business innovations.
Ahead of the speech, Hackel told WWJ Newsradio 950 that economically speaking, things are good.
"We're in pretty good shape, when you talk about automotive and the increased investment we have seen over the past two years, as well as defense manufacturing. We're trying to work on our small business with a new Home In Macomb business retention program. There's about 18,000 small businesses in Macomb County and we're trying to grow those. We're trying to figure out, you know, if some of them are ready for that new, second stage to take that lead. So, we're reaching out to them, we're not waiting for them to call and ask for our help," he said.
Hackel said the county is also seeing an up-tick in its economy and population.
"Within Macomb County, we've averaged over the last census period from 2000 to 2010, now 2012, approximately 14 people a day move into Macomb County, if you look at it on average over that 12 year span. So, that's pretty significant numbers," he said.
In fact, Hackel said Macomb County its the fastest growing county in the state.
"Macomb County has the largest population growth since last year. So, over the last year into this year, we've noticed that Macomb County, by population numbers, we are the fastest growing county in the state," he said.
Hackel will also be introducing two new Macomb County promotional videos during the speech.
