Macomb County Man Facing 10 Child Pornography Charges
SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) - A 25-year-old Macomb County man who served jail time in Canada for attempting to bring child porn into the country last year has been extradited to face similar charges in Michigan.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said Derek Thomas Milbocker was arraigned Wednesday in 41-A District Court on 10 felony counts of possession of child sexually abusive material. He was ordered held on a $10,000 bond.
On March 4, 2012, police say Milbocker crossed the Blue Water Bridge and was stopped at the Canadian border on his way to Toronto to allegedly visit a woman he met online. During a search of his vehicle, Canadian customs agents discovered eight images of child pornography on a laptop computer and a pair of handcuffs, The Sarnia Observer reported. Milbocker allegedly told officers he considered the pornographic images "funny, or stupid," but also said he wouldn't engage in any activity that would harm a child. He was placed under arrest.
In September 2012, Milbocker pled guilty to charges of unlawfully importing child pornography and possession of child pornography. He was sentenced to one year in Canadian jail and three years probation, which included 221 days served.
A few days after his arrest in March, agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security executed a federal search warrant on Milbocker's residence for child pornography. A forensic examination of Milbocker's media storage revealed numerous images of known child pornography, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.
Federal law enforcement officials obtained an arrest warrant for Milbocker on May 1, 2012, but later turned the case over to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.
Milbocker completed his jail sentence earlier this week, and was transferred to the custody of detectives with the Macomb Area Computer Enforcement unit at the border on Jan. 15, 2013.
