Macomb County Fire Aftermath: Courts Open, Temporary Phone Numbers Up
MT. CLEMENS -- Macomb County authorities announced that due to last week's fire at the Old County Building, the Macomb County Circuit and Probate courts' phone and computer systems are still not operational. However, the court is open and anyone who has a notice to appear should do so.
Thanks to the generosity of Macomb County Community Mental Health, the Court has 33 iPhones on loan and has established a list of temporary phone numbers which will be posted on the court's Web site. Although the court cannot access its case management system, staff may be able to help with routine questions if you call.
"The judges and staff are doing everything possible to keep our courtrooms up and running, minimize delays and assist the public," said Chief Judge John Foster. "Despite the current challenges, the Court remains committed to the administration of justice and service to the public. Judges and staff are going above and beyond to maintain operations."
Members of the public with any questions or concerns about court proceedings are urged to come -- in person -- to the Macomb County Clerk's Office on the first floor or Court Administration on the fifth floor of the Macomb County Circuit Court building. All proceedings are going forward as scheduled in the Circuit, Juvenile and Probate court buildings. Macomb County Information Technology says it's working hard to restore systems and is hopeful to have them functional by the end of the week.
Throughout the year, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel has promised a new primary county data center at the Road Commission with a backup at the county jail.
