Macomb Commissioner Charged With Drunk Driving
A Macomb County Commissioner is facing drunk driving charges. Roseville Police say 33-year old Irene Kepler was arrested after police received calls about an intoxicated woman getting ready to drive away from a party store.
Kepler was stopped on 12 Mile Road near Utica Road about 1 a.m. after the police officer saw the car driving in an erratic manner.
Police say after being stopped Kepler failed sobriety tests and refused a preliminary breath test. That's when she was arrested and taken to the police department where a breath analyzer test showed a blood alcohol level of .25. That's more than three times the legal limit.
This isn't a first offense. According to police, Kepler wa arrested for drunk driving in Royal Oak in March of 2009.
Roseville Deputy Police Chief James Berlin tells WWJ this second offense could cost her.
"It could be up to one year in jail," Berlin said. "Plus, there's a multitude of fines, driver's license restrictions, community services requirments -- it's pretty hefty," he said.
Kepler is a currently serving Macomb County Commissioner, representing District 21. She was elected to a two year term in 2008. The term will end January 1st.
A message seeking comment left by WWJ at Kepler's office was not immediatly returned.
