Macomb Co. Adds 639 Jobs During Year's First Half
MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) - In the first six months of 2011, $55.1 million was added to Macomb County's economy, along with over 600 new jobs.
The findings come after the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development released its economic impact report on Tuesday.
Of the department's many client companies, 11 made investments in real and personal property totaling more than $55.1 million between January 1 and June 30, 2011. These investments helped to preserve some 1,167 Michigan jobs and create an additional 639 new positions.
Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel called the job and investment numbers "very impressing," adding that the figures show the county's economy is turning the corner.
"I am pleased that 11 companies have chosen to invest in Macomb County to retain and create high quality jobs for our citizens. I commend our planning and economic development specialists for their hard work and responsiveness to our corporate community," Hackel said in a written statement.
Included on the list is a $24.2 million dollar investment made by Faurecia, a global automotive solutions company headquartered in France. The investment in its Fraser, Michigan plant will install new machinery and equipment helping to retain 439 jobs while creating 428 more.
Stephen Cassin, director of the department, said the manufacturing industry, especially as related to today's advanced processes, is alive and well in Macomb County.
