Lucy Will Knock Your Socks Off – Literally
DETROIT (WWJ) – It's a widely-held belief that humans only use approximately 10 percent of the brain's capacity at any given time. But, what if we used more than that; say 30 percent, or 50 percent, or perhaps the entire 100 percent?
That idea is explored in "Lucy," starring Scarlett Johansson as a young woman living in Taiwan who's tricked by her new boyfriend into delivering a package to a mysterious businessman. Unbeknownst to her, the package contains an extremely powerful synthetic drug. Once the drug is delivered, the ruthless businessman, known only as Mr. Jang, has it surgically implanted inside her stomach – and in the stomachs of three other unwilling victims. The idea is to use them as drug mules to transport the substance to different parts of the world to be sold illegally.
When the drug accidentally leaks into Lucy's system, her body changes dramatically and she develops unimaginable superpowers. That, in case you're wondering, is where the headline comes in.
In the role of Lucy, Johansson proves she is an extraordinary talent. One minute she is naïve and vulnerable; the next she is cool and calculating. And she plays her role to a "T."
If advance ticket sales according to Fandango are correct, Lucy will be the movie to beat this weekend. It's unique and action-packed from beginning to end, and I highly recommend it. And if Writer/Director Luc Besson is so inclined, there's even an opportunity for a sequel.
Also starring Morgan Freeman as Professor Samuel Norman, South Korean actor Choi Min-Sik as Mr. Jang, and Amr Waked as Capt. Pierre Del Rio. Rated R.
See you at the movies!
