Capt. Lovell Recreates Historic Apollo 8 Christmas Eve Broadcast
CHICAGO (WWJ) - An astronaut who was on board the first manned spacecraft to orbit the moon recreates history. Retired Capt. James Lovell marked the 45th anniversary of Apollo 8's live Christmas Eve broadcast at a ceremony in Chicago.
Lovell says America's priorities have changed when it comes to the space program:
"Hopefully, some day we will resurrect some of our achievements again and go ahead and continue to go back to the moon again," said Lovell. "Eventually as a consortium of many countries, I think now, we'll go to Mars."
Lovell read verses of Genesis from the Bible like he did on the previous broadcast -- taking turns with high school students.
