Wayne County man wins Michigan Lottery $1.05 million prize
(CBS DETROIT) - A burst of confetti seen on the Michigan Lottery app was the cheer that let a Wayne County man know he won over $1 million.
The 57-year-old man chose to remain anonymous as he went through the lottery winner claim process for his Lotto 74 jackpot. Michigan Lottery officials reported his story Wednesday.
The lottery player bought his winning ticket for $1 Dec. 4 at Maple Drugs on Wayne Road in Westland. The numbers drawn that date were 02-10-13-24-29-46.
"The day after the drawing, I checked my Lotto 47 ticket by scanning it on the Lottery app," the player told lottery officials. "When confetti came up on the screen with the amount of $1.05 million, all I could think was: 'It's a miracle! An early Christmas miracle!'
"It's pretty amazing to invest $1 and win $1.05 million. Just like that, your financial future is clearer," the lottery player added.
The player chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $728,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount. He said he plans to use his winnings to help his family and save for retirement.
Lotto 47 game is one of the games run by the Michigan Lottery. Each ticket costs $1. Players select six numbers from one to 47, winnings depend on how many numbers are matched for that day's drawing with a Double Play option for some results.
The jackpot starts at $1 million and grows until someone wins it. Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said eight players won Lotto 47 jackpots during 2024.
Lotto 47 drawings take place Wednesday and Saturday.
