Long Trial On Overtime At Quicken Loans Nears End
DETROIT (AP) - Jurors in Detroit are hearing closing arguments in a long trial that will determine if former employees at Quicken Loans get overtime.
The case involves more than 300 people who worked the phones to promote mortgages over a four-year period that ended in 2006. The trial has centered on whether the work was mainly sales, which would qualify them for overtime. Quicken claims an exemption for administrative work should apply.
The trial in federal court began on Feb. 8. Attorney Paul Lukas went over e-mails and other evidence Monday to convince jurors that selling loans was the key task for Quicken employees. He says it doesn't matter if they waived overtime when they took the job.
Many plaintiffs who say they worked 60-hour weeks are in the courtroom.
