Police Search Northville High School
Students at Northville High School were sent home early, Thursday, as police conducted a room-by-room search of the building.
The school was on lockdown late Thursday morning because of a report that a student may have entered the building with a weapon. That's according to school officials who posted a notice on the district's website.
Police tell WWJ Newsradio 950 that students were sent home on their regular buses, using their regular routes. Parents were told not to pick up their kids.
As a precaution, nearby Ridge Wood Elementary School remained in lock down for the remainder of the school day, with students restricted to their classrooms and no one allowed in or out of the building. All other schools in the district were on what the school calls "heightened alert", with outside doors locked and monitored.
PM Kindergarten, and PM ECIP classes were cancelled for all Northville Public Schools. PM Pre-K (Early Childhood) classes remained in session.
A concerned mother told WWJ the school called parents to inform them of the lockdown earlier in the day. School officials asked parents to help keep the phone lines clear, saying regular updates would be provided the district's website.
Police say investigators found nothing during multiple sweeps of the high school. However, all after-school and evening activities at the school were canceled due to the ongoing investigation.
