Locally-Made Beads The Rage In Royal Oak
Miner's Den scheduled as a CBS Evening News Feature on Saturday, February 18 at 6 p.m.
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - WWJ Newsradio 950's Kathryn Larson visited Royal Oak to have a look at some beads that are all the rage and locally made.
Miner's Den Vice President Dave Schowalter says sales of his Pandora-style beads, that universally attach to any of those thin silver bangle bracelets, have taken off beyond anyone's expectations.
And unlike the kind you can buy at the mall, Schowalter said Miner's Den has tens of thousands of beads specialized to your (or your lady's) college, sorority or even high school.
"We're gonna have them all. And then one thing with them being manufactured in Michigan, we pay particular attention to the Michigan schools, and we never run out of those," Schowalter said.
Showalter uses a mishmash of dental and automotive technologies to create the beads, that can be made in hours. That wax bead is then transformed to metal.
The beads and charms cost about $50 each.
