Local Travelers Scramble For Flights Out Of Egypt
DETROIT (WWJ) Cairo's international airport was a scene of chaos and confusion as thousands of foreigners sought to flee the unrest.
Countries around the world scrambled to send in planes to fly their citizens out. Ihab Zaki is with Spiekermann Travel in Eastpointe, which specializes in travel to the Mideast, particularly to Egypt.
Zaki had one large group of nearly 120 people in the country. Zaki arranged for a flight from Egypt, to Tel Aviv, to Athens, and then to New York. He says that, all things considered, the tourists are doing alright.
Zaki says that, "the tourists are well taken care off. Nobody is harming them. Actually they are getting help from everywhere they can. People are being very supportive for the stranded tourists."
He says things seem to be under control today although Tuesday could be more difficult, with calls for 1 million people to take to the streets of Egypt in pursuit of President Mubarak's resignation.
