Local Students Prepare For MLK Legacy March
As the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday approaches students at King High in Detroit are preparing for their 2nd Annual Martin Luther King (MLK) Legacy March on Monday.
Karinda Washington is co-chair of the march, she says their goal is to train the next generation of leaders to make a difference.
"Sometimes you hear that 300 people went to the march on Washington, or 1000's of people went to DC for this...but we have some things we can advocate for right here in our own city, and we just believe that if it's not the youth, if we are not training them up to lead this next tier of advocacy, then who will?"
Washington says students from other Detroit Public Schools will also be in attendance at the march showing their support. The march stomps off at 10am Monday.
