Local Student Wins 'Doodle For Google' Contest
BLOOMFIELD HILLS (WWJ) - A metro Detroit high school student is this year's statewide winner of the "Doodle for Google" contest.
The doodle by Bloomfield Hills Andover High School student Dakota Jones titled "beekeeping" -- which spells out the word "Google" -- was chosen as a statewide winner and continues on to national competition.
"The theme this year was 'My Best Day Ever,' and since middle school I always wanted to keep bees, just because I think it's a very fun hobby and it also helps the planet, because bees are such ... a bit part of our pollination process," said Jones. "And they're really like one of the building blocks for everything we rely on."
Jones talked about her method.
"It was pretty much just like work on the G, work on the O, I just kind of went in order to try to get it done," Jones said. "It pretty much just came. Like, I didn't do too much editing because I just started and was like, 'Yes. This is what I want it to be.'"
The winners in each of the 50 states were chosen from a total of over 130,000 entries. The national winner will be awarded a $30,000 scholarship and $50,000 in computer equipment for his or her school. In addition, the winning doodle will appear on the Google website for a day.
