Local Red Cross Heads To Tornado-Ravaged South
DETROIT (WWJ) - Another Red Cross Disaster Relief crew is headed out on a 800-mile drive to Birmingham, Alabama where they'll join-up with crews from other Red Cross locations nationwide.
Southeast Michigan Red Cross spokesperson Allison Koenigbauer said this crew will be distributing food, hygiene kits, blankets and water.
In the wake of severe storm damage, Red Cross Disaster Relief crews also help with clean-up if needed. Koenigbauer told WWJ these crews are always on call to help during national disasters.
"We've sent three people down so far; three volunteers, two staff members. And these are the next two out... we go where our help is needed," Koenigbauer said, adding that she expects they will probably get a call to send more crews.
More financial support for Red Cross disaster relief efforts is also needed. Koenigbaue said any amount is welcome.
