Local Reaction To Mubarak Plan: It's Not Enough
DETROIT (WWJ) Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak says he is transferring power to his vice president, but will not leave the country. Mubarak said in a nationally televised address that the demands of protesters calling for his immediate ouster are just and legitimate.
Dawud Walid, the Executive Director of the Michigan Chapter of CAIR, tells WWJ that today's developments change nothing in Egypt.
"He has been thoroughly entrenched with the repressive regimes of Mubarak for the last three decades, so he is not representing any real change and the people in Egypt, the people on the ground, who really, they are the ones whose destiny is at stake," says Walid.
WWJ spoke earlier with Osama Siblani with the Arab American News. He says today's changes in Egypt are "not enough."
"The answer came from three million people who are gathering in the ...square, in Cairo, the answer is very clear, that whatever Mubarak is offering is not enough, not only is not enough, is has been rejected. It is a totally resignation and they want to change the regime," states Siblani.
Mubarak said he would lift hated emergency laws when security permitted.

During his speech, Mubarak vowed to punish those behind violence over the past two weeks and offered condolences to the families of those killed.
