Local Nun Creates 'Bucket List' After Breast Cancer Diagnosis
ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - Given six-months to live because of stage-four breast cancer, a local nun has started a 'bucket list' and an inspiring movement.
Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis caught up with Sister Carol Yuhasz of St. Joan of Arc in St. Clair Shores during part of her journey.
"I've really called it 'Joy in the Journey'," said Sr. Carol. "God has allowed me to reach out to many, many people."
"And I just decided that I was going to live life to the fullest, I wasn't going to look at it as a death sentence - that it was more like a life sentence," she said. "To live my life more fully, not to sweat the small stuff."
She says this may sound odd to some, but her cancer has been a blessing.
"My only prayer to God, has been to let me touch one life or to make a difference in someone's life with what I'm going through, and God is really revealing that to me on a daily basis," she said.
This Red Wings fan has been to New York, and Vegas and even got to ride on a fire truck ringing the sirens and that led to a big party at the Joan of Arc School.
"There stood over 500 children in pink tee-shirts that said 'Sister Carol's Kid' waving pink pom-poms. Well, I just started to cry," she said.
