Donations Sought To Fix 112-Year-Old Church Steeple
DETROIT (WWJ) - It's going to take much more than prayer to repair.
Heavy winds damaged the 112-year-old steeple of St. Josaphat catholic church — on Canfield in Detroit — and the steeple was found unsafe, so parishioners can't enter the church.
Kevin Piotrowski, Parish Council President, said it could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars up to $1 million to fix, and he's waiting on some estimates and to hear back from the insurance company.
Piotrowski said they'd like to rebuild the steeple and not just remove it, but that would cost a lot and he's not sure if they can raise the money. That's why they're asking for help.
"Reaction to the steeple has been so encouraging and inspiring," said Piotrowski. "We've heard from so many people; not just catholics, but people across metro Detroit."

"If people want to contribute to our S.O.S. 'Save Our Steeple' campaign, they can provide financial help by making a donation," he said. "They can either send a check in to our parish office or they can go to the parish website."
