Local Church Needs Help Feeding Poor On Thanksgiving
A fire at a grocery store is forcing a Detroit church to seek food donations to help feed the needy on Thanksgiving Day.
The Rev. Barry Randolph says he expects 200 to 400 people to come by the Church of the Messiah between noon and 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving and he hopes to have enough food for all.
Randolph says Indian Village Market promised to donate turkeys and other items, but a fire last week left its contribution uncertain.
He says the tough economy has many area families depending on the church's help over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
Donations can be dropped off at the church on East Grand Boulevard, north of Jefferson.
