Local Artist Designs Holiday Cards To Support Cystic Fibrosis Research
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - If you want to send a holiday card with a deeper meaning. A local charity can help. A noted artist from the Metro Detroit area is stepping up to lend a hand with cystic fibrosis research funding -- while keeping it all in the family.
We start with full disclosure. The Bonnell Foundation was founded by WWJ reporter Laura Bonnell. Her teenage daughters have cystic fibrosis and to further keep it in the family -- these cards were designed by Laura's mother Lois Teicher.
" ... my hobby is to do these funky little drawings," said Teicher.
"I can't tell you exactly what the inspiration is because it comes from a kind of an unconscious space in my head and things just flow out," she added.
Teicher is usually commissioned to do massive public art installations. Drawing the art for the cards is a true labor of love. "Well it is fun and it is a celebration of life. My sculpture is much more formal, but these drawing just allow me to have fun with them," said Teicher.
"... it was my pleasure to be able to do that. 100 percent of the funds go to help families," she added.
The cards have three designs featuring whimsical impressions of the seasons.

These one of a kind cards are $25 for a pack of ten. The 5 x 7 holiday cards are professionally printed on beautiful white card stock, and comes with white envelopes. The inside of the card is blank so you can write whatever moves you. On the back of the card is a few words about our Foundation. Teicher has created these playful cards to celebrate life and the holidays.
