Local Analyst Says Murbarak Will Be Ousted

DEARBORN (WWJ)  Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will likely be forced out. That prediction from one area Political science professor.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher spoke with University of Michigan-Dearborn Political Science Professor Ron Stockton who has been watching events unfold in Egypt and says if Mubarak goes, things can change.

Stockton did say he expects a free election in Egypt in the future, "... the whole purpose of a democratic election is to produce policy changes and because the structures of these societies are so rigid, that is, the gap between rich and poor is so great , it's not likely that there's going to be a massive transformation of society, which I think is what people are hoping, it's not like Iran."

He also says the U.S. government has made it clear that the protestors have a legitimate point of view and that we have limited leverage.

Stockton does not think religious extremists will take over the country.

Stockton and others, including WWJ's Tim Kiska, will hold a forum on events in the Middle East at the U-of-M-Dearborn on February 8th.
