Livonia's PowerCapes Supplying Capes To Epilepsy Walkers

Dozens of purple capes with silver lightening bolts will help a special group of walkers connect at the fifth annual National Walk for Epilepsy on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, March 27.

Traveling to this fundraising event from across the United States and overseas are members of an online support group for families of children with Myoclonic Astatic Epilepsy, an epilepsy of early childhood also known as Doose Syndrome, www.DooseSyndrome.com.

"Because most of us have only talked online, we wanted an easy way to identify each other at the walk," said Mary Anne Schmidt of Omaha, Neb., whose 10 year-old son has Doose Syndrome. "When I discovered PowerCapes.com and learned that the company could customize capes of all sizes for us and ship worldwide, it was the perfect solution."

According to Schmidt, purple is a color associated with epilepsy fundraising efforts. She shared that not everyone in the group will be able to participate, yet several people have ordered the specially designed capes in support.

Since the Epilepsy Foundation began sponsoring the National Walk for Epilepsy to benefit research, programs and awareness, the event has engaged more than 25,000 participants and raised more than $4 million.
