Livonia Ram's Horn Destroyed By Fire

LIVONIA (WWJ) - A popular Livonia restaurant has burned to the ground.

The Ram's Horn stood for more than three decades at Middlebelt south of 8 Mile prior to the fire that broke out at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Livonia Fire officials said that all five stations in the city, along with EMS and police, responded to the scene.

WWJ spoke also with Erik Weingrot, manager of the United Rent-All store next door.

"I walked outside and all I could see was solid black smoke where Ram's Horn is. I assumed there was a fire there but I couldn't even see the building to even know," said Weingrot.

Weingrot said it appeared that everyone got out of the restaurant safely.

Fire officials said fire started in the kitchen. It appears that workers did not switch on the sprinkler system that could have aided in putting out the fire.

The restaurant is a total loss - restoration crews were at the site on Tuesday evening.
