'Living Stations' To Be Performed At Detroit Church
DETROIT (WWJ) - In honor of the Lenten season, a special musical stage presentation called "Living Stations" will be performed at the Most Blessed Sacrament church in Detroit.
The annual presentation, described as the "Broadway version of the Passion of Christ," is based on the Stations of the Cross celebrated by Pope John Paul II in 1991 on Good Friday; a visual realization of what Christ went through on the Cross.
Michael De-Souza, who plays Jesus in the production, spoke to WWJ Newsradio 950 about how he prepared for the role.
"A lot of the research that I did was kind of referring back to scripture, and the movie 'Passion of the Christ' was obviously good research too. I didn't see it when it first came out, but the director really suggested that I take a look," said De-Souza.
Kathryn Zardus, the play's director, said the goal is to draw people close to Christ and the word is spreading.
"The spirit of this piece has really caught fire throughout the whole Detroit community. Groups from churches are coming on buses and schools are coming and people are spread the word. It's really quite exciting," said Zardus.
Living Stations opens Friday night and will run until April 1, at the Most Blessed Sacrament, 9844 Woodward in downtown Detroit.
