Liquid Web Creates Western Backup Site
LANSING -- The Lansing hosting provider Liquid Web has created a geographic separation of its hardware to offer greater redundancy and less latency for users of its proprietary Smart Servers line.
In the new regions, US Central (headquartered in Michigan) and US West (headquartered in Arizona), Smart Servers will contain a number of individual zones amongst which users can host and distribute data.
Company officials said Liquid Web established a development office in Scottsdale, Ariz. in 2010, and more recently has located physical servers in Phoenix.
Liquid Web says the expansion allows its customers to create geographic redundancy with a hot standby site, allowing customer operations to move to a fully functional standby system should a primary system fail. Liquid Web also noted that both data centers are now in "disaster neutral" areas of the United States -- areas with few earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes or other natural disasters.
"Our US West Region allows us to fast track our ongoing efforts by physically moving your data closer to West Coast hubs," Liquid Web founder and CEO Matthew Hill said. "This expansion caters to Western US based businesses and global companies with customers in the Western United States and will provide us with the momentum necessary for continued growth."
Liquid Web also announced updates that will allow its customers to use an expanded stable of operating systems on Smart Servers. Offering the power of dedicated server hosting with the flexibility of cloud hosting, Smart Servers' familiar server images will now include Cent OS 6.2, Arch Linux 2011.08.19, Ubuntu 11.10 and Debian 6.0.3 updates.
"With our clientele representing a wide array of diverse tastes, we are constantly looking to re-engineer, innovate and improve with our customers in mind," Hill said. "These updates to our operating systems will provide our users with the most modern, streamlined, efficient and user-friendly options available."
Liquid Web Inc. is a privately held managed web hosting company founded in 1997, with three data centers in Lansing and one in Phoenix, Ariz. Liquid Web has more than 20,000 clients located in more than 120 countries.
