Lions Win: Fans Cheer, Look Forward To Next Season
Another Lions season comes to an end, but this one has been a little different. Detroit closed the season with a 20-13 victory over Minnesota Sunday to finish with a record of 6 and 10.
Die-hard Lions fans who go to the games say they saw improvement this season. Fans like Ryan Boivin, of Windsor, who says there were some tough breaks, but they got better as the season went on.
"I'm hoping next year that they're challenging for a playoff spot, not just a wild card, but for the division," Boivin told WWJ's Beth Fisher.
Season ticket-holder Derek Pudrith, of Sterling Heights, is also looking forward to next season.
"You can see the future is bright, you know. Martin Mayhew ... he knows what he's doing. I think the Lions got a lot to look forward to. They gotta stay healthy, that's the big key," Pudrith said.
And, now that the Lions have finished their season with four straight wins, analysts are debating how they did it.
Here's one theory: Rev. Horace L. Sheffield, III -- who is Pastor of New Destiny Baptist Church in Detroit -- says give some credit to the power of prayer. Sheffield points out that he and others gathered to pray for the Lions after the team's Thanksgiving Day loss. And what happened? Four consecutive wins. Coincidence? Sheffield thinks not.
