Lions Take CB Darius Slay In 2nd Round Of Draft
DETROIT (97.1 THE TICKET) - The Detroit Lions have taken Mississippi State cornerback Darius Slay in the second round of the NFL Draft Friday.
The Lions drafted Slay with the 36th overall pick - he had five interceptions last season and returned one of them for a touchdown.
Slay suffered a torn MCL in his junior year of high school.
The Lions have a spot for him to start opposite veteran cornerback Chris Houston. The 6-foot, 192-pound Slay is from Brunswick, Ga.
On Thursday, the Lions drafted defensive end Ziggy Ansah with the No. 5 overall pick in the NFL draft Thursday night, counting on a prospect who had to be persuaded to try football three years ago.
"He's the best player available," Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said. "And, he fills a need."
Detroit didn't re-sign defensive end Cliff Avril, who joined Seattle in free agency, and cut its other starting defensive end, Kyle Vanden Bosch, from last year's 4-12 team.
