Lions' Newcomer Spencer Havner Gets Work At Many Positions
If Lions coach Jim Schwartz could construct a football player prototype, that player might just be Spencer Havner.
Havner, 6-feet-3 and 250 pounds, was a star linebacker at UCLA who was converted into a tight end as a rookie last season in Green Bay. The Lions claimed him off waivers Sunday, and he practiced Monday with the linebackers. But it sounds like the Lions have Havner slated to play every position except water boy.
"We can use him in a lot of different roles," Schwartz said. "He can play some tight end, he can play some fullback, he can play some linebacker, he can play some special teams. We're just getting him up to speed in a lot of different places."
