Lions 45, Broncos 10
DENVER (WWJ/AP) - A 41-yard pass to Titus Young set the tone for the Detroit Lions lopsided victory over the Denver Broncos 45-10 on Sunday.
As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - Young caught his first TD pass to put the Lions (6-2) on the board and take a lead they would never relinquish over Denver (2-5).
Lions head coach Jim Schwartz speaking postgame on The Ticket about what made a difference in Detroit's play against the Broncos.
"Successful running of the ball on first down. Titus' TD came as a result of a good first down play," said Schwartz. "For a while we weren't getting too many third downs."
The Lions sacked Tim Tebow seven times and turned his two turnovers into touchdowns as they snapped a two-game skid with a win over the Broncos.
Tebow followed his Miami miracle with a dud in Denver as the Broncos were blown out Sunday.
Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch celebrated his sack of Tebow by joining the "Tebowing" craze, striking a prayerful pose near the prone second-year quarterback in the first half.
Cornerback Chris Houston had the fourth 100-yard interception return in team history and defensive end Cliff Avril got a sack, strip and scoop, rumbling 24 yards into the end zone with the fumbled football as part of Detroit's 45-point run after the Broncos had taken a 3-0 lead on their first drive.
For the Lions who had lost 26 straight road games between 2007-10, now have won four of their six season wins on the road.
The Lions throttled the Broncos in 2007 beating them 44-7, moving their record to then 6-2 and then went 1-7 for the rest of the season.
Analysts point to the differences between the Lions of 2007 and 2011: Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Ndamukong Suh as starting points for a successful difference between the two teams.
