Lions Defeat Raiders 28-27; Open Up 2-Game Lead For Possible Playoff Spot

OAKLAND (WWJ) - The Detroit Lions rally in the final minutes of the game to beat the Oakland Raiders 28-27 on Sunday.

As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - the Raiders (7-7) lined up to kick what would have been a NFL record field goal kick for the win but missed - giving the Lions (9-5) the win and a two game lead for a possible final playoff spot in the NFC.

Back from a two game suspension, Ndamukong Suh, blocked the final 65 yard field goal attempt for Detroit.

"Thought our offensive lined played very well," said head coach Jim Schwartz.  "Early on we gave up a couple touchdowns ... we didn't tackle very well."

Schwartz said the second half  helped define the game with Alphonso Smith and Corey Williams stepping up.

WWJ's Tony Ortiz spoke with Calvin Johnson about the big touchdown catch in the final minute: "The middle was open and I stayed low and fought through it."

"We're the comeback kids this year," laughed Johnson. "We understand situations and we know when it counts the most and rise to the occasion."

Johnson had 214 yards and two touchdowns including a touchdown which gave the Lions a tie and eventual lead.

Matthew Stafford completed 29 of 52 attempts for 391 yards with four TD's on the day.

Oakland's Carson Palmer had one interception and completed 32 of 40 for 367 yards in the Raiders' loss.
