Lincoln Park Residents Fed Up With Basement Flooding
LINCOLN PARK (WWJ) - For the second time in less than a month, some Lincoln Park residents are dealing with flooded basements.
About two weeks ago, basements on Harrison Boulevard, Cloverlawn, Moran and Leblanc filled with sewer water. WWJ's Florence Walton reports that, just this week, they filled again.
One Cloverlawn resident said they hadn't had a chance to complete clean up following basement flooding two weeks ago.
"If you came down here two weeks ago when we had all this and seen what people had to throw out, it was terrible," said the resident, who didn't want to give her name. "The people on Harrison really got it bad and I guess they got it bad again today."
She said homeowners are trying to figure out just what to do as they are still drying out their basements following this week's rain showers.
"See, this is my daughter's house," she said. "She called and she went to a meeting last night, but you see, they want you to hire lawyers ... you don't know what you're going to lose next. Next-door lost their washer and dryer and she just bought it in May."
Residents are meeting to see what can be done because they reject the claims of City Councilman Thomas Murphy that the flooding was caused by an act of God.
"They say the last thing was 'an act of God' and this other thing was not," said the Cloverlawn resident. "There was something wrong. They said the alarms went off at the system about two o'clock in the morning and then everybody ended up with this problem."
