Limited Edition Cabrera Sneakers Fly Off Shelves
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) – Frost bite and purple hands– that's what some Tiger fans say they suffered for a pair of Miguel Cabrera sneakers.
With a line stretching around the building in downtown Royal Oak fans waiting for the chance to buy the limited edition Cabrera sneakers took heart and braved the late spring chill.
Only 44 pairs of the sneakers were sold at Royal Oak's Burn Rubber, "We wanted to keep it limited because Miguel Cabrera hit 44 home runs," manager Jay John told WWJ's Kathryn Larson.
John said that New Balance worked exclusively with the store to create the 'Boys of Summer' fashion friendly navy-blue pigskin sneaker and with the Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera stats on the shoe tongue and a Triple Crown gold logo – it's not hard to see why some fans arrived 12 -15 hours ahead of the launch.
Although the 'Cabrera's' carry a $150 price tag more than one fan said it was worth it.
Richard Barnie got a pair.
"They're cheaper than most Jordan's," said 20-year-old Richard Barnie.
"I'm going to wear them to the Tigers game, of course, but it just depends on how nice the weather is," he added.
