Overnight Snowfall Leaves Roadways Slick
DETROIT (WWJ) A little snow is causing some big problems for commuters on the road, Friday morning.
With only about a half-inch of fresh snowfall, WWJ's Alisa Zee said multiple accidents were being reported on local freeways. As of Thursday evening, no serious injuries were reported.
WWJ tipsters were reporting especially slippery spots along the Macomb/Oakland border.
According to the National Weather Service, the light snow will continue through the early morning hours. Periods of snow, mainly before 3 a.m. Low around 10. Wind chill values as low as -6. Breezy, with a west northwest wind between 16 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
Total snow accumulations through 7 a.m. are expected to range between one-half inch and just over one inch.
A special weather statement has been issued, urging motorists to use caution as the light accumulations makes roadways slick and as visibility is reduced to as low as one mile.
With wind-chill temperatures as low as -7, travellers are advised to have safety gear in their cars, including blankets, snow shovel, safety flares, food and keep your gas tank above the half-way point in case you are stuck on the road for some period of time.
