"Light It Blue" Campaign Highlights Autism Awareness
DETROIT (WWJ) - If you happen to drive over the Mackinac Bridge Monday around 9:15 p.m., don't panic when you see the lights on it turn blue -- it's all a part of the "Light it Blue" campaign, designed to bring awareness to autism.
WWJ's Chrystal Knight reports that a special campaign kicks off next week to help bring awareness.
"We are going to change out all the light bulbs on the bridge and at 9:15 p.m the bridge will for the first time ever become blue," said Murray Wycloff with the Autistic Children's Treatment in Michigan.
"What this will do along with other national landmarks will show people are in solidarity to help children and families with autism and their circumstances," said Wycloff.
Wycloff says the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, the Renaissance Center in Detroit, the Golden Gate Bridge along with several other landmarks will be in solidarity and become blue.
More than 15,000 children in Michigan are diagnosed with autism and experts say there is no medical detection or cure for the disorder.
Michigan ranks fourth in the nation, when it comes to the number of children with Autism.
