Life Without Parole For Man Who Raped, Strangled Woman
PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - A judge has issued the mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole to a man convicted of raping and strangling a 32-year-old mother of three, then dumping her body in a southeast Michigan lake.
A boy fishing in Terry Lake in Pontiac on May 26 found the floating body of Rosaline Lee.
Oakland County Circuit Judge Daniel O'Brien on Monday sentenced Bobby L. Taylor for first-degree murder.
Assistant Prosecutor Paul Walton says Taylor saw Lee in her van in the early morning when she parked in downtown Pontiac to pick up child support from the father of her youngest child.
Taylor, 42, was arrested initially for a parole violation in an unrelated case. But police say he quickly because a suspect when DNA evidence was taken during Rosaline Ransom-Lee's autopsy.
According to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, Taylor has numerous prior convictions for possessing stolen property, dangerous drugs, aggravated assault, escape from prison and habitual fourth offender for which he was on parole. He was released from prison in May of 2012 and was on parole at the time of Lee's death.
Taylor was also charged in an attempted sexual assault for a separate crime that took place last year. Prosecutors said, in that case, Taylor entered a home and attempted to sexually assault a sleeping woman — but she fought him off.
