'Life Remodeled' Brings New Start For Farmington Family
DETROIT (WWJ) - Armed with local residents as volunteers, the non-profit group Life Remodeled started building a new house Monday for a family in need in Farmington Hills.
Life Remodeled combines volunteer help and donations from businesses to build new homes for families in six days.
Although he admits the time constraint can be stressful, Life Remodeled President Chris Lambert said some aspects of the hype make it easier.
"Everybody's riding the high and the wow factor, Lambert said, "Everybody's gotta be on their toes. (There's) just a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of excitement. It's something to see all that work get done in such a short period of time."
Becky Wilson, a volunteer for the non-profit, said they offer a neighborhood-wide makeover along with the renovation, painting garages and building decks for other residents. B
The group works to rebuild the families as well, offering outside help getting them back on their feet.
"We also take families through financial training with a financial adviser," Lambert said. "We take them through counseling and we offer them spiritual guidance."
After presenting the house, the organization gives each family three years to prove they can handle the upkeep for their home before they own it.
Lambert said they will turn the keys over to the owners Sunday afternoon, when they will hold a community block party.
