Leyland: 'I Don't Think I Saw Anything About A Guarantee'
DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) - After Sunday's game against the Yankees, Jose Valverde talked with the media about the ALDS being over since the Tigers are headed back to Comerica Park. Valverde said, "Verlander has it [Monday]. Next day, have the celebration in Detroit -- 100 percent. The Yankees have a good team, but I think that's it for them."
Valverde was smiling while he was saying all this and closed by saying, "I'm joking, guys."
Jim Leyland was asked about this comment and said, "First of all, I don't think I saw anything about a guarantee ... he admitted it was tongue-in-cheek."
Leyland followed up by saying, "I didn't take offense to the video at Yankee Stadium when they were talking about the World Series and like we were the j.v. and they were getting ready for the World Series."
Leyland admitted that he likes that "kind of stuff" and said, "I don't really think the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers need any bulletin board stuff I would take that with a grain of salt."
