Levin States Qaddafi "On His Heels, Now"
DETROIT (WWJ) - International coalition airstrikes have helped Libyan rebels gain momentum against Muammar Qaddafi's forces. The opposition troops have retaken the town of Brega and the oil complex at Ras Lanouf.
On CNN's State of the Union, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin says it's clear that the United Nation sanctioned airstrikes have succeeded and he praised President Obama for supporting them.
"It has prevented the slaughter of Libyan people and that was the trigger for the President," Levin says.
"It's going to take the people of Libya to remove their dictator, with the help of economic sanctions that the world has put in place, and by the way with a weakened Qaddafi because of the success, hopefully, of this military mission, adds Levin. "It is a flyover, which is succeeding, it has set Qaddafi back, he is on his heels, now."
NATO's top decision-making body is likely to expand today the alliance's air mission over Libya to allow strikes against Moammar Qaddafi's military.
