Lesson On Golf Blog: Tiger Woods Return A Money Grab

The World Number Four ranked golfer will make his return to the PGA Tour this week at the Quicken Loans National, played at Congressional in Washington D.C.
He likely is making huge mistake.
Amid all the excitement surrounding his return, let's examine the facts.
He just started hitting full shots a little over a week ago. This after a back surgery in March that has sidelined other professional athletes for up to a year or longer.
Does that sound like someone who likely is physically ready to play? Add to that, he likely will not play in any other event prior to The British Open still a month away reportedly due to "doctors' orders".
So why would he risk his health at this stage of recovery?
With world number four in the field it markedly increases interest, TV ratings and gate receipts.
As such, Quicken Loans and Dan Gilbert could not be happier.
But the real reason I bet lies with his own charity- The Tiger Woods Foundation- which does great work for underprivileged youth. The Foundation stands to benefit greatly by his participation in the event.
He should be applauded for his fund raising efforts for his charity. But at what cost? Is this wise given his fragile physical state as he tries to recover from major back surgery in his late 30s?
Let's face it. If he was really ready to return to the tour he would play in at least one other event prior to next month's British Open. He is not scheduled to play in ANY others before then.
One can only hope he is not making a big mistake in returning before his body is ready. The Tour needs him. Golf needs him. Heck, I need him!
