Lesson On Golf Blog: Tiger Woods Or Oscar Woods?

By: Jeff Lesson

Tiger Woods says he has had a great year. He has won five times on the PGA Tour. So what if he has said for years that it cannot be a great year without winning a major.

But what happened at The Barclays would've made Steven Spielberg proud.

Last Wednesday Woods tells the media that he suffered an injured back and neck due to sleeping on "hotel pillows". This despite sleeping on presumably more than one other hotel pillow since joining the tour in 1996.

Then he miraculously mounts a charge on the final day and closes to within one stroke of the lead. Next he pulls a ball about 75 yards left of the fairway into the water and drops to his knees in pain.

So the only time we see Tiger drop to his knees all week is right when he hits by far his worst shot of the week. The one that ended up costing him the tournament.

To be fair, Woods pulled it together to make another charge to finish only one shot back. But conspicuously missing were all the theatrics of falling to one knee in pain.

For example, when Tiger hit a spectacular approach shot to six feet on 16 or to eight feet on 17 he appeared to be feeling much better. Coincidence? Or does Mr. Woods deserve another kind of trophy- an Oscar.

They just don't make hotel pillows like they used to.
