Legislative Hearing For International Bridge Set For Wednesday
LANSING (WWJ) - A Michigan Senate committee is set to begin a series of hearings on legislation that could make the idea of a new bridge between Detroit and Canada a reality.
Will there be a new international crossing between Detroit and Canada? As WWJ's Chrystal Knight explains, a series of hearings are set to begin.
The Senate Economic Development committee has scheduled its first hearing on legislation for Wednesday. Governor Snyder, business and labor groups all find themselves on the pro-side of the new international crossing from Detroit to Windsor, while people who live nearby the proposed location and owners of the Ambassador Bridge maintain 'this project won't pay for itself', they are also concerned that the location will put the bridge footings on the U.S. side - too close to underground salt mines.
So for now, to build or not to build remains the question.
