AUBURN HILLS (CBS DETROIT) - When a reporter asked four-time NBA MVP and two-time NBA Finals MVP LeBron James what he thought about the 10-year, $292 million contract extension of Detroit Tigers superstar Miguel Cabrera, James replied instantly.
"I think I wish [the NBA] didn't have a salary cap," James said before his Miami Heat played the Detroit Pistons Friday night. "I say, 'Wow.' He's the best player in baseball, and the best players in each sport should be rewarded."
Even as he smiled, James made it clear he found the idea of such a contract quite enticing.
"It'd be nice to sign a 10-year deal worth 300," James said. "I would do it. I would do it for sure. This summer I would do it - 10 years, 300. I would do it. I'd opt out for that."
James signed a six-year, $109 million to go to the Miami Heat in 2010.
