Lawyer: Cabrera Will Fight Fla. DUI Charges
(Lakeland, Fla.-WWJ) A Florida attorney says he plans a "vigorous defense" of Detroit Tigers first basement Miguel Cabrera, who is charged with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting arrest.
Michael Kessler, who heads the Kessler Law Firm in Ft. Pierce, Florida, tells the Detroit Free Press he doesn't plea bargain in DUI cases, adding, "I take cases when people want to be defended."
"Miguel Cabrera maintains his innocence," Kessler told the newspaper. "We intend to put forth a vigorous defense."
Cabrera was arrested February 16 in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He faces a charge of suspicion of driving under the influence, plus two counts of resisting an officer.
The slugger, who belted 38 home runs last season, offered a public apology when he reported to the Tigers spring training camp in Lakeland, Florida, at the end of last week. A not guilty plea has been entered on his behalf. Arraignment is scheduled for March 16 in St Lucie County, Florida.
