Lawsuit Filed In Underwear Bombing Incident
DETROIT (WWJ) - A New York man seeks damages for injuries he says he suffered when he subdued a Nigerian attempting to blow up an Amsterdam-to-Detroit flight on Chrismas Day, 2009.
Theophilus Maranga has filed suit in federal court in Manhattan against Delta Air Lines, Air France KLM and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.
He's the man the Feds say tried to blow up the plane with a bomb concealed in his underwear as it landed at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Maranga claims he suffered a variety of injuries when he jumped on Abdulmutallab to prevent him from detonating the device.
Maranga says Delta and Air France KLM were negligent in allowing Abdulmutallab to board the plane without a valid passport.
Abdulmutallab pleaded guilty in Detroit federal court in October. He faces life in prison when he's sentenced next month.
There was no immediate comment from Delta or Air France KLM.
